Central Palmdale and the Civic Center
Palmdale grew up around the railroad, and the present-day civic center sits where the town moved in 1899 to be near the tracks. ZIP code 93550 covers the civic center area along with Harold, Vincent Grade and Barrel Springs. The Palmdale Transportation Center is here, so I’d measure how far each home is from the Metrolink platform. I’d also ask about the age of the neighborhood, since central areas can be older than the newer edges of the city.
Rancho Vista and Anaverde
Rancho Vista, Anaverde, Desert View Highlands and Portal Ridge all share ZIP code 93551. Rancho Vista Golf Course is the only PGA-class course in the city. I’d check the year built and lot size on each listing, since a single ZIP code can hold homes from different eras. I’d also ask about homeowner association fees for any planned community.
Near Plant 42
Air Force Plant 42 and Palmdale Regional Airport have their own ZIP code, 93590. Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman all operate at Plant 42, and Northrop Grumman occupies about two thirds of its sites. If I were looking at homes in that direction, I’d ask about aircraft noise and check where the flight paths run. The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark next to the plant shows aircraft built or tested there.

State Route 14, the Antelope Valley Freeway, runs through the city, and State Route 138 shares the same roadway. Streets follow a grid of lettered avenues and numbered streets. A few details would shape my plans:
- The Palmdale Transportation Center, 39000 Clock Tower Plaza Drive, is a Metrolink Antelope Valley Line station with 750 free spaces for passengers. Antelope Valley Transit Authority buses connect there.
- For maintenance, Metrolink will shut the Antelope Valley Line between Lancaster and Los Angeles on October 3 and 4, 2026.
- California’s High-Speed Rail Authority approved the 38.3-mile, $22.6 billion Palmdale to Burbank segment on June 27, 2024, with stations at the Palmdale Transportation Center and Burbank Airport.
- Metro is studying SR-14 improvements from Newhall Avenue in Santa Clarita to Avenue P in Palmdale. The study has no published schedule.
